First Wednesday of October

October is one of my favorite months. It starts to get cool, hunting season gets in full swing and Halloween. Who could ask for anything more?

So today at Scrappily Ever After is the Wednesday scrap challenge. Each Wednesday is a card made completely out of scraps. I've got such a nice collection of scraps to choose from. The pile seems to keep growing since I continue to buy more paper. Such a vicious circle. Use up older left over supplies so that the guilt of buying new supplies isn't as bad.

World Card Making is Today!

I'm being lazy but it's world card making day! So if I get up and make it to my scrap desk I'll be doing great. I did get up early though and cleaned our bedroom. Swapped out some summer to winter clothes, got stuff for Good Will donation and got out hunting clothes. I also unpacked a suitcase and duffel bag. It was used for a labor day trip so I figured it was time. ;-) Quite a busy morning.

I bought 1000 envelopes just now. I got some this week from Office Depot that was $12 or so for 100. The one's that I bought today are from Heinrich. Even with the shipping and the $10 minimum they came out to $3.80 per 100. That way we can stamp and tuck our cards before sending them to Operation Write Home. I've been reading about how much time our three shippers spend getting the cards ready for their trip overseas. It's amazing that they have a minute of time left for themselves. Sandy shipped out 2,970 cards today at a cost of $112.50. Check that out....wow! So I guess if she can do that I can get my fanny to my scrap desk and help fill up more boxes.

Happy Friday!

It's been a while but I'm going to get back here. Somehow September just got away from me. A quick card from my Halloween stash of scraps.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Today is our Wednesday scrap challenge. I'm in the Halloween mood lately. Since my kids don't dress up anymore I love that I can make cards for Operation Write Home. Someone asked me if I sent Halloween cards and I never have but I might just do it this year. (If you know me you know that I make cards all year but never mail any including Christmas cards.)

A few years ago I dressed up as Velma from Scoopy Doo. Before I went to work that day I went over to my parents and my mom took some pictures. As I was driving off for work someone down the street from them was putting up those huge blow up displays. One was Scooby so I stopped and asked the woman to take my picture with it. Sounds normal enough right? Everyone stops and asks strangers to take their picture with one of their outdoor decorations.

My mom and I scrapbook together and when she saw the pictures with Scooby Doo she asked who had taken them and where I was. I reminded her that I had stopped at her neighbors. One of the gals that scrapbooks with us at our LSS (Scrapbook Concepts) was talking about her Halloween parties. She is a BIG TIME Halloween fan and has a huge event every year. She invited us to come and told us where she lives. Turns out it is right down the street from, you guessed it, my parents. I asked her if she had a huge Scooby Doo decoration almost as a joke. We couldn't believe it when she said yes. It wasn't weird enough that we had been scrapbooking with her for almost 2 years and didn't realize they lived only houses away but this is the person who took my picture.

So anyway here is my card that is using the left over paper from my Velma costume that was taken at my mom's neighbors house who we didn't know that we have been scrapbooking with for a couple of years now. Thanks Sabrina, nice to meet you. LOL

Photo Challenge Friday

Is that an inspiring photo or what? I guess it is my love of color and school supplies combined. I can roam for hours in an office supply store and love back to school shopping with the kids. Color always is my favorite design element and seems to mean the most to me.

As inspiring as this picture is I just now made my card to go along with it. Now mind you I have seen the picture a while ago it just wasn't the right time to make the card. Once I sat down the first scrap paper I grabbed was this. And poof there it was. This is amazing to me since I am the slowest crafter ever! Of course its a super simple card but I like it.

I knew that I wanted to use this phrase as soon as I saw the picture though. About 5 years ago someone at work would send out a quote or motivational saying every morning. It struck me as such a great message that I printed it out and stuck it in my idea binder. As I've come across it every now and again I have re-read it and enjoy it every time. I may have to use it as my signature line in my email.
We could learn a lot from Crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird
names and all are different colors
but they all have to learn to live
in the same box.

Hop on over to Scrappily Ever After and see what the inspiration team has to delight your eyes with. I especially like what Cheryl has done over at cafexprations. I just love turtles.

Have a great weekend folks and get ready to start next month off with a Birthday Bash at Operation Write Home.

Today is my DH birthday

Yes we just have birthday after birthday in August. Today is my dear husbands birthday. I won't post an old of him I'll just say that I love him.

Today I have a Christmas card that I used a super cute digi stamp from Beccy's Place. Beccy has lots of adorable quilted animals to offer, she is a fabulous artist. I used Copics for my coloring and K and Company for the paper.

Stop back tomorrow for another photo challenge from Scrappily Ever After. This one has lots of colors.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday and she is out of town. That means I have to do a blog shout out to tell her Happy Birthday and I love her. Check out these pictures, isn't she cute? My uncle and Grandpa are pretty cute too.

It's the last Wednesday in August which makes it the last 'back to school scrap challenge' at Scrappily Ever After. My pile of scraps is huge. This past weekend I pulled out all the scraps that were under my Pazzles, mostly cardstock. Cut them, sorted by color and filed then in a crate. Hopefully that will keep me from cutting a new piece when I have a half sheet that will work.

I already had a big file of patterned pieces so they just got dumped into the existing batch. I don't think I will sort that one unless it gets way out of hand. I've been enjoying just reaching in and using that as my jumping off point.

So today when I reached in looking for school themes I got this vintage playground scene. It reminded me of school days. I used the original piece for some of my mother in laws childhood pictures. It's a simple card but I like the nostalgic feel. Wound up making a second card with the scraps from the crackled paper too. The little epoxy stickers I think came from Big Lots, they were just the right size.
